School Year Programs for Kids

 Sunday School

Sunday School is a multi-age, family inclusive event! Each session focuses on a Jewish holiday theme, and includes stories, crafts, music and bagels.

Sometimes Sunday School includes a field trip!  Past field trips have included trips to Vacationland Bowling (where else to strike out Haman?), Union Bagel Company (the only place in Portland where they make them NY style), and The Maine Jewish Museum (enough said!)  There are six sessions which meet from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM on various Sundays – a great way for kids to meet, learn, and form long lasting bonds.

If you are interested in attending and getting on the Sunday School e-mail list, send an email to  .

Confirmation Class (aka “The Teen Class”)

After the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, teenagers meet weekly for up to 3 years to participate in confirmation study and discussion.  Topics include The Holocaust, Israeli Defense, Personal Responsibility, Diaspora, and Yiddish/Jewish Culture and Cinema.  Every year, students are invited on a weekend trip to NYC to take in Jewish cultural sites (and a Broadway show.)  Check out the most recent slideshow – looks like a fun time!
